I bought my first gun! My first big girl gun purchase!
**I of course do not condone violence and this page will never condone misuse of firearms or weapons.**
My boyfriend and I went to Riflegear on Saturday for their annual Anniversary event where they discount guns, gun parts and accessories! We went last year, so we’re making it a tradition by going yearly now! I was very anti-gun my whole life until about 2 years ago. I think they are a lot of fun when handled responsibly and with proper training.
Anywayyyyyyyys, we went very excited because they always hold a raffle to win awesome prizes – including guns! (I actually won a 24c Gold AP5 Gun at the NRA show in Dallas in May, but that will have to be another story! It was wild! Haha) You get a raffle ticket just for showing up at the event and then you get another raffle ticket for posting a picture on social media while you are there. The final way to get tickets is by making a purchase. You get 1 raffle ticket per every $50 spent. They have several tables set out where you can see all of the raffle giveaway items and look over the choices. There is a secure container in front of each item that you’re able to put your raffle tickets into once you decide what you’re going after. Last year, I only had 2 tickets and unfortunately, never got the call that I won something. This year, I walked away with a different story to tell!
Since I’ve been into the gun scene or becoming more educated with the help of my boyfriend, I’ve fallen in love with the Q Fix. The Fix is a bolt action rifle with interchangeable barrels to suit your shooting preference. It also gives the gun a different type of feeling dependent on the ammo you’re shooting. Last year at the event, I shot an 8.6 bullet and boy did it feel good! Q actually created this bullet and this specific ammunition size so it’s very unique to their company and several of their guns. At the event, we had to check out the Q table to check out their guns and talk to their reps. I got to hold a Fix and a Honey Badger, which is their more popular SBR (short barrel rifle). We ended up chatting with a gentleman who was extremely excited about getting a Mini Fix, which is a slightly different and smaller version of the full size Fix. He told me I better get in line (by scanning the QR code at the table) if I was planning on getting one that day. I came to the event with no intention of purchasing a gun that day, but after speaking with the reps, holding the Fix in my hands and educating myself on the differences between guns, I excitedly scanned the QR code to get in line. I had a 4 hour wait – what! My boyfriend and I were hesitant due to the large amount of people at the show and since it was a spur of the moment decision to purchase a pricey product. However, we still had a lot to check out while we were there, so we killed time by walking around to the different booths and checking out all the gear that Riflegear had to offer.
My boyfriend purchased a Reptilia scope mount, a stock and some gun lubricant while we waited. I watched the waitlist on my phone patiently drop in time….4 hours to 3 hours to 2 hours to under one hour! While we were waiting, we discussed whether or not I should actually make the purchase. We talked pros and cons. Pros won LOL. When I was #14 in line with an hour wait left, I suddenly got an alert on my phone! It was my turn!!! My heart stopped….I was about to get my big girl gun and the coolest gun I’ve seen since I’ve been in the market!
We got up to the counter and let them know that I got notified about my turn. The employee politely asked me what I needed help with today and I told him I wanted to purchase a Q Fix! He disappeared to the back and then proceeded shortly later with a box! We went to a bigger counter space where he laid the gun out so that I could examine it and make sure it was the one I wanted. I held it in my hands, had my boyfriend hold it, and sure enough – it was meant to be!
I told him yes, I love it and it’s the one that I want to take home. He proceeded to have me sign the official documentation needed to make the purchase and have my background checked. I couldn’t believe it was happening! The whole process went by extremely quickly and I was walking out with my new gun before I knew it! But first……we had to enter the raffle!
Last year, I only had 2 raffle tickets. This year, I think I had almost 60?! We separated each ticket and then approached the bins for the giveaway items. Q has another rifle called the Sugar Weasel which is also an awesome gun. It looks similar to the Honey Badger as well as the Fix and has that pristine modern look that catches everyone’s eye. I put about half of my tickets into that bin and about half into a Daniel Defense rifle nearby. I think I put one or two into some other items like a pistol and suppressor. My boyfriend had some from his purchases so he put his into his favorite item bins and we both hope for the best! The winners will actually be announced today once they do the official drawings! We are eagerly waiting but also have no expectation of winning. It’s just something fun to look forward to
We went to get lunch shortly after leaving Riflegear at a yummy pizza restaurant in Plano called Taverna Rossa! While we were sitting down, I got a call from an unknown 800 number. If you’re anything like me, you never answer random numbers lol. I usually say they can leave me a voicemail if they really want to reach me! And sure enough, I got a notification for a left voicemail right after the missed call. I listen to the voicemail and who was it?! Riflegear! I was confused because the raffle drawings weren’t until Monday. What could they want? I listen to the voicemail and it’s really hard to understand since I was in a restaurant but something about them forgetting to give me something and that I could come pick it up later since they set it aside for me. I assumed it was a part for my gun but I called back after eating to confirm. They told me that Q was having a promotion for buying a gun and that I could come pick up my D-bag range bag. What?!
We head back to Riflegear after paying and sure enough, I had a rifle bag waiting for me and guess what. It is HOT PINK! Like neon pink. I instantly fell in love haha. The weird thing is, they made no mention of it during my purchase, nor did they advertise it online or in-store about having a promotion. We think they had one and decided to give it to me since I was a blonde girl buying a Q gun LOL. But who knows! It would be funny to see a big burly man walking around with this super hot pink gun bag but I am totally here for it. All that to say, I love winning things (who doesn’t?!), I’m obsessed with my new rifle, and I can’t wait to hear who the winners are for the raffle giveaway! Thank you Riflegear for such a fun event!
**My gun will be used to shoot long distance in a controlled, responsible environment. When not in use, it is stored securely in a safe that is non accessible by anyone else.**
